This month we will have TWO great presentations about drone racing in Northeast Ohio!

OIDRA Drone Racing League – Drew Ferguson, PHASTAR
Drew will provide an overview of the Ohio Interscholastic Drone Racing Association. Organized by PHASTAR in 2018, OIDRA is the first drone racing association that will bring competitive drone racing to Northeast Ohio high schools.

Drone Racing and FPV – Andy Stankiewicz, Cleveland Quad Squad
Andy will talk about drone racing, FPV flying, and how it works. (We will try to talk him into bringing some equipment for show and tell.)

Both presentations are part of our ongoing public education series.  This event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be provided.

#2 – Getting Started with Part 107

Are you thinking about getting a Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate? This presentation will help you decide whether it’s right for you, identify relevant resources, and make a plan. If you have been wondering how to get started, how much to spend, and how to find the best materials for your situation – this is the presentation for you.

Discover Aviation Day

This is Discover Aviation Center’s annual DISCOVER AVIATION DAY at the Lorain County Regional Airport (KLPR).  Drive-in or Fly-in.  Fly-ins receive a Fuel Discount from MRK Aviation.

Event runs from 9am to 2pm.

This is a FREE fun/educational event for both aviation enthusiasts and those who look to the sky and dream of flying. A great opportunity for family and friends to get together and enjoy a day at your local airport.

There will be aircraft activities, kid’s activities, entertainment, food, and airplane ride opportunities.

Visit the Discover Aviation Center AvLab. Learn about aviation and try your hand at the Flight Simulator

EAA Chapteer 1252 will host a pancake breakfast from 9am to noon and their volunteer pilots will sponsor Young Eagles Free Airplane Rides for youths ages 8-17. A parent must be present. Registration ends at noon.

May Meetup – Drones in Agriculture

Drones are revolutionizing agriculture and farming, through specialized sensors, digital image processing, and software algorithms. These specialized platforms can provide a wealth of information on crop health, field elevations, volumetrics, plant counts, and crop scouting.

Thomas Taconet has been an FAA licensed remote pilot since the very first day the FAA offered Part 107 certification. He operates Avon UAS and has deep experience using drones in agriculture. Tom will provide an overview of the drone hardware and software systems used for precision agriculture.

NEO GIS Symposium

April Meetup – Drones in the Solar Industry

In the solar industry, the drones are being used at every stage of the project cycle. Drones are used for site surveying, design and installation, and more. From marketing to operations and maintenance, drone technology is helping the solar industry become efficient and accelerating the shift to clean energy.

This month’s presenter is David Zelasko, a consultant with Third Sun Solar. He will discuss some of the ways drones are used in solar today, both at Third Sun and in the industry as a whole.
